Last Updated: May 1, 2002 As you might have guessed, my name is Ivan Drobnjak. I was born on May 16, 1979 in the city of Podgorica. Podgorica is the capital of the smaller of two states, Montenegro, which along with Serbia makes up current Yugoslavia. Considering the turbulence and speed at which historic events take place in that area, this might not hold at the time you are reading this. I grew up in Podgorica. Podgorica is a big city (by my standards), with the population of around 170,000 - 200,000. This type of city provided many possibilities. I can say that I was one of the lucky ones to have a great childhood in Yugoslavia. I never lacked anything. My family was, and still is, the best in the world. Beach was a 45 minute drive to the south, while in the winter ski resorts were 1 hour drive to the north. Snow skiing is my passion. I am convinced that no one will ever come up with a sport that incorporates more beauty, thrill and excitement than snow-skiing. At the age of 16, to be precise, on June 26th, 1996, I took off across the ocean to go finish high school in the US. I arrived at my destination, Vincent, Alabama where I stayed for one school year. During my time at Alabama I survived my first serious culture shock. It was an entirely different lifestyle, and I had some trouble adapting. Fortunately, I managed and made some friends for life. The Barnes family, which was my host family for that year, are like my second mom, dad, brother and sister. They were the ones that made it fun for me during that year, and they are the ones to take me into their home for every holiday and treat me like a part of the family. Then I got accepted to a college in Kentucky. The name of it was Berea College, and it was a small, private, Christian institution, located in Berea, Kentucky - about 30 miles south of Lexington on I75. After a long decision process, I decided to attend Berea where I stayed for the period between Fall '97 through May '01. Many great things happened during my stay at Berea and about those you can read by clicking the appropriate link on the left. My next destination in the United States was a small city of Oxford, Ohio, where I currently reside. I was accepted on merits of high scholastic achievement and great interpersonal skills to the Richard T. Farmer School of Business, Miami University, to complete my education by earning an MBA degree in Finance. Currently I am graduating from Miami and will be starting full-time employment with Fifth Third Bank of Cincinnati, Ohio. My official title is that of a "Commercial Associate", but it is simply a rotational training position for one year through four different areas of the Commercial Banking Division. Where will I go from here no one knows. Life has its own predefined ways, and all we can do is listen to it, work hard, and make the right choices at the right time. I am just sort of playing it by the ear and waiting for the right opportunity to arise. I know it will. It always does. For the end here are some pictures of me.
